All right, one of the bigger guilds. I’m here to announce each category. At least, the three that apply to movies. I’ll include a short commentary with each. So, let’s get started!
BEST DOCUMENTARY
The Gatekeepers
The Island President
The Other Dream Team
A People Acounted
Searching For Sugar Man
Well, they’re ignoring Academy picks ‘Bully’, ‘The Imposter’, and ‘The Invisible War’. Frankly, I haven’t seen many docs, but I heard that they were amazing, so I’m surprised they didn’t get a nod.
BEST ANIMATED FEATURE
Brave
Frankenweenie
ParaNorman
Rise Of The Guardians
Wreck-It Ralph
Basically, these are the same as the Golden Globe nominees, except replacing Hotel Transylvania with ParaNorman. These look like they will be the Oscar Nominees, but don’t be surprised if the foreign pick ‘The Painting’ makes it in. Foreign films often do.
BEST MOTION PICTURE
Argo
Beasts Of The Southern Wild
Django Unchained
Les Miserables
Life Of Pi
Lincoln
Moonrise Kingdom
Silver Linings Playbook
Skyfall
Zero Dark Thirty
Having seen all except ‘Django Unchained’ and ‘Zero Dark Thirty’, I can say that these are some pretty nice nominees. They basically took the Critic’s Choice nominees and replaced ‘The Master’ with ‘Skyfall’. Although I personally prefer ‘The Master’, I think that ‘Skyfall’ is an inspired choice. But will this choice carry to the Oscars? From what I understand, no Bond movie has ever gotten nominated for Best Picture, nor any of the major categories. If Bardem gets in for Supporting Actor, that’ll be something for the filmmakers to have Champagne over. But he isn’t the movie’s only shot. People love this movie for more than just Bardem. I mentioned Bardem’s performance to my sister once and said ‘Who doesn’t want to be a James Bond villain?’ To which she responded, ‘Who doesn’t want to be James Bond?’ Ah, always the zinger, little sis.
