Producer’s Guild Awards

BEST PICTURE: TIE! Gravity and 12 Years A Slave

Oh, boy. We’re in a pickle. The Producer’s Guild is usually pretty good at picking a Best Picture winner. So the good news is American Hustle is pretty much out of the competition. Now this only raises the question.. which film will win the coveted honor? I’ll have to think about it and go into more detail in the individual category breakdowns in February.

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE: Frozen

Now here’s how the Academy voting system works. For the nominations, only the members in a specific branch get to vote for their specific category. (Director’s branch, Actor’s branch, etc.) Winning, on the other hand, is a process that everybody in the Academy votes for. With that in mind, it looks like Frozen will walk away with the Oscar. I’ll discuss this in more depth in February, but the short version is, people aren’t able to see The Wind Rises. But pretty much everybody has seen Frozen. Also, Studio Ghibli has an Oscar and Disney doesn’t.

BEST DOCUMENTARY: We Steal Secrets: The Story Of WikiLeaks

Not even nominated for the Oscar. The Act Of Killing will probably win.
