We’re starting to venture into categories that I’m not 100% certain about, but I’ll do my best to predict the winner.
5th Most Likely To Win: Unbroken
I just can’t see this winning. The film only managed three nominations, and I don’t think there’s a big outrage to give it a win somewhere. It’s just not happening.
4th Most Likely To Win: Birdman
Sometimes, when a movie has serious Best Picture heat, it manages a few nominations that it really doesn’t deserve. That’s why Birdman got these sound nominations. Does anybody really think that the sound mix is good enough to win? And this is coming from someone who LOVED the movie.
3rd Most Likely To Win: Interstellar
A lot of people complained about the sound mixing. Personally, I loved the sound design, and I felt that it really put me in the moment. But haters gonna hate, and as it stands, I think Interstellar has a much better chance in Sound Editing than it does here
2nd Most Likely To Win: Whiplash
And now we come to the two films with a strong chance at winning. The sound design in the film is really good, and everybody agrees on that. Plus, the film is a Best Picture nominee and universally beloved. This has a legitimate chance of pulling off an upset win, but I think there’s a stronger contender in place right now.
MY PREDICTED WINNER: American Sniper
Considering the fact that the film is the frontrunner to win in Sound Editing, I’d say it’s probably gonna win here too. Most of the time, one film wins both categories. And this wouldn’t look out of place next to some of the other winners in this category. It’s a war movie, a popular film, and it wins both Sound categories. Statistically, this seems the most likely.
My Personal Ranking Of The Nominees
3.) American Sniper
