I would like to apologize. I had a review all written out but then I forgot to save and the whole thing was erased from existence. On that note, this will be a very short review as I really don’t feel like doing all of that typing again.
Yeah, I didn’t particularly care for The English Patient.
The film was just dull and forgettable. There’s nothing about it that distinguishes it from the rest of the Best Picture winners. It’s just… there. It’s a film without an identity.
There were some good performances by Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche (by the way, am I the only one who thinks Binoche should have been nominated in lead and Kristin Scott Thomas should have been in supporting?) But nothing really great came out of this film.
The film did have some strong moments, namely the ending. And good cinematography and score is pretty much a given at this point. And I did like the film better than a number of Best Picture Winners. I didn’t love it, but at least I liked it marginally better than Seinfeld‘s Elaine.
