Guess what? Room has a new trailer, and it’s a trailer that practically screams ‘Oscar.’
I really like the trailer, except for one tiny little thing… Why did they give Ma a name?
My problem, really, is the name that they chose. I mean as far as Female Protagonist Names In 2015 Oscar Contenders go, the name they chose, well…
…it’s taken.
This might turn out to be humorous if this years Best Actress race comes down to Larson v. Lawrence, which it very well could. (Sorry, Amy Poehler)
I don’t know. For me, she’ll always be ‘Ma.’ But I guess it doesn’t really matter, you can call her whatever you want. Call her ‘Miley’ for all I care.
…Gee, that would be a different movie. Anyway, Oscar Predictions!
PICTURE
Carol
The Danish Girl
The Hateful Eight
Inside Out
Joy
The Revenant
Room
Spotlight
Steve Jobs
Okay, I’m not really sure if Room is our Best Picture winner, but none of the other choices feel right to me. I’ll stick with Room for as long as I can in the hopes of boosting its chances.
Replaced Bridge Of Spies with Spotlight
DIRECTOR
Lenny Abrahmson, Room
Danny Boyle, Steve Jobs
Tom Hooper, The Danish Girl
Alejandro G. Inarritu, The Revenant
David O. Russell, Joy
Like in Picture, I’m not sure if Lenny Abrahmson has the reviews to win Best Director. Boyle, Hooper, and Inarritu all won Oscars relatively recently, and I don’t know if the Academy is in a hurry to reward them again. O. Russell, I figure we’ll wait until Joy comes out before we can get a clear glance on how it stands.
Replaced Spielberg with Hooper.
ACTOR
Johnny Depp, Black Mass
Leonardo DiCaprio, The Revenant
Michael Fassbender, Steve Jobs
Tom Hanks, Bridge Of Spies
Eddie Redmayne, The Danish Girl
I kept this the same. There’s a lot of speculation about whether or not Tremblay will go lead or supporting, but I’m keeping him in Supporting for now. Ironically, he could actually make it into this year’s Best Actor category, given how week the field looks.
ACTRESS
Cate Blanchett, Carol
Brie Larson, Room
Jennifer Lawrence, Joy
Carey Mulligan, Suffragette
Lily Tomlin, Grandma
Replaced Streep with Tomlin. Larson’s still my predicted winner, only now she has the reviews to back it up.
SUP. ACTOR
Bradley Cooper, Joy
Idris Elba, Beasts Of No Nation
Tom Hardy, The Revenant
Kurt Russel, The Hateful Eight
Jacob Tremblay, Room
Replaced DeNiro with Elba. Tremblay is being compared to Quvénzhane Wallis in Beasts Of The Southern Wild, which is very comforting. The only question is – lead or supporting?
SUP. ACTRESS
Marion Cotillard, Macbeth
Jennifer Jason Lee, The Hateful Eight
Rooney Mara, Carol
Kate Winslet, Steve Jobs
Alicia Vikander, The Danish Girl
Replaced Page with Vikander. Joan Allen has gotten some praise for Room, and she could get in, but I’m not gonna predict it yet.

Room
Again, changed my winner from Room to Steve Jobs, which is currently my runner up in Picture. At this point I feel like I’m just throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks.

Sometimes it feels like I’m just blindly guessing with these predictions. I don’t feel that confident in any of them, and I guess I’ll just have to wait and see how this plays out.
But that’s what’s so fun about being an Oscar blogger.
I would give out my very early predictions if I lived in a city that appreciated good movies. Sure, don’t show Black Mass but yeah, yeah keep Pixels in theaters for as long as you can sure why not?
I’m always impressed that you know so much about upcoming movies that u feel confident enough to make these kinda predictions even back in January.
How have u fared in the past? based on ur early predictions
I might make a post about how well my early predictions have done – stay tuned for that!
Cool. Looking forward to it!
