I think I’m going to start off by saying that I loved Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s hosting. They managed a lot of good jokes, my favorite being about Meryl Streep. “She’s home with the flu.” “And I hear she’s really good in it.” But what did I think of the winners?
SUPPORTING ACTOR: Christolph Waltz, Django Unchained
From what I understand, Waltz’s character is very similar to the character he played in ‘Inglorious Bastards’. I don’t think he’s going to pull out a win. I’m still placing my bets on Phillip Seymour Hoffman.
ORIGINAL SCORE: Life Of Pi
ORIGINAL SONG: “Skyfall”, Skyfall
If there’s one branch that loves the Bond franchise, it’s original song. Look out for Les Miz, though.
ACTRESS (COMEDY OR MUSICAL): Jennifer Lawrence, Silver Linings Playbook
“I beat Meryl!” Words to live by.
SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Anne Hathaway, Les Miserables
Nice acceptance speech, but am I the only one aware of Hathaway’s lack of screen time? I’m voting for Amy Adams.
SCREENPLAY: Django Unchained
I so have to see that movie.
FOREIGN FILM: Amour
Didn’t care for it.
ANIMATED FILM: Brave
Wait a minute, is this award actually hard to call? It is! For the first time, too!
DIRECTOR: Ben Affleck, Argo
I guess they feel they have to make it up for him. I bet the academy is feeling pretty uncomfortable right about now.
ACTOR (MUSICAL OR COMEDY): Hugh Jackman, Les Miserables
Cooper is angry. Now he’s going home to a disfunctional family only to fall in love with a dancer.
PICTURE (MUSICAL OR COMEDY): Les Miserables
Do you hear the people sing? Yes, actually. It’s really all you hear.
ACTRESS (DRAMA): Jessica Chastain, Zero Dark Thirty
From what I can gather, she plays a tough, independent woman who doesn’t need a man to complete her and was in no way written by Kathryn Bigelow.
ACTOR (DRAMA): Daniel Day Lewis, Lincoln
Well, yeah. What did you think was going to happen. Nice speech, by the way.
PICTURE (DRAMA): Argo
Boy, a lot of pressure on Argo. But remember, the previous winners of this category, (Avatar, The Social Network, The Descendants) did NOT go on to win best picture. Read into that what you will.
Enjoyed reading. We saw Argo and really liked it. Also, Lincoln was a great movie, but you had to understand while watching it, what part of Abraham Lincoln’s life they were concentrating on. We now want to see Parental Guidance. Keep up the great blogs!
