I’m just gonna come right out and say it, I don’t give a Dam Keeper about this category. Not only is it one of the short film categories, but I also want to get this post out of the way quickly so that I can talk about some really exciting news.
5th Most Likely To Win: A Single Life
A woman can make time go backwards and forwards with a magic record player. Also, the short is about three minutes long. I don’t know it just really doesn’t seem like something that they’d go for.
4th Most Likely To Win: Me & My Moulton
Apparently it’s about this woman recounting her childhood, and the contrast between the realities of parents and children. Sounds interesting, but the word of mouth on the others are better.
3rd Most Likely To Win: Feast
Now this seems like a red herring. The fact of the matter is, Disney doesn’t win this category all the time. If ‘Get A Horse’ couldn’t win, I highly doubt that this one will. Yes, it has the exposure, but that doesn’t always guarantee a win in this category.
2nd Most Likely To Win: The Dam Keeper
And now my joke at the beginning makes more sense. So this one is about a town filled with talking animals, and a pig that keeps the dam in operation. This might be your winner, but for some reason, my gut is telling me to go with another film.
MY PREDICTED WINNER: The Bigger Picture
So, this one was animated with life sized paintings and a mixture of stop-motion techniques. It’s the most ambitious of the five nominees, and I think enough people are talking about it to make it a valid winner. I don’t know, it’s the one that feels right to me. Also, it won the BAFTA, so that’s something.
I’ve only seen Feast here, so no ranking. Shame that Duet didn’t make it though.
