I’m gonna start out by saying, you really never know with the Short Film categories. A lot of it boils down to which short have most people seen, and which one has the best campaign, Luckily, there seems to be a pretty clear frontrunner in Animated Short this year.
5th Most Likely To Win: Prologue
From what I gather, there’s not much of a story to this one, just a bunch of pretty animation. And I bet it’s good, but the Academy tend to favor movies with a little bit of story in this category. (Or any category.)
4th Most Likely To Win: Sanjay’s Super Team
It seems like the obvious choice, but Pixar hasn’t won this category in 14 years! They didn’t even nominate the feature it played in front of in Animated Feature. It does have a nice bit of culture and likability, but I just don’t think this is gonna happen.
3rd Most Likely To Win: We Can’t Live Without Cosmos
This is supposedly a sweet little story on the same vein as ‘The Lost Thing’. This could be a surprise win, but it just seems too small and too slight to actually pull off an Oscar win. But then again, I’ve been wrong before.
2nd Most Likely To Win: Bear Story
Seems very ‘Mr. Hublot’-esque. It seems like a simple and charming little film that voters will remember. And some people say it’s exactly the type of thing that Oscar loves. Don’t be shocked if this ends up winning, but I think there’s a more obvious winner to be found…
MY PREDICTED WINNER: World Of Tomorrow.
To me, this seems like your clear frontrunner. It’s available on Netflix and on Amazon Prime, and the reviews are great. It’s the only one of the nominees I’ve actually seen, and while I’m not as over the moon about as some people are, the reviews are generally really good. It also won the Annie Award. Call it a hunch, but this just feels like a winner to me.
havent seen any of these yet
I saw World of Tomorrow too, and I liked it…but I wasn’t over the moon either.
It’s a hell of a lot better than that Sanjay mess though. That short was…terrible. I have no idea why it’s even nominated.
