2015 Let’sPredict: Wrapping Up

Because of how insanely behind I am, I thought that I would kill three birds with one stone. I promise I won’t be doing this in future Oscar seasons. Next year, I’ll be more proficient.

Man, this Oscar season is almost done. Wow.

BEST COSTUME DESIGN

The nominees are;

Carol
Cinderella
The Danish Girl
Mad Max: Fury Road
The Revenant

The Revenant would have to win literally everything else in order to win here. Carol just keeps getting ignored in category after category. The Danish Girl won the Period CGA, which puts it in a good position for the upset. Cinderella has the flashiest costumes, and a win here would make sense. But I’m going to predict Mad Max: Fury Road to win here, as the film not only won BAFTA and BFCA, and Fantasy CGA. While all the others are theoretically possible, Fury Road is the one that makes the most sense.

BEST VISUAL EFFECTS

The nominees are;

Ex Machina
Mad Max: Fury Road
The Martian
The Revenant
Star Wars: The Force Awakens

What an extremely tough category. Three of the nominees are Best Picture nominees, and the other two were probably very close to being Best Picture nominees.

The effects in Ex Machina seem to subtle to win here. The Martian might be a frontrunner in another year, but here I just can’t see it happening. Star Wars will get votes, but the film isn’t a Best Picture nominee, so I doubt it will win. The Revenant has a chance to pull off a win, but in The End, I think this will be yet another victory for Mad Max: Fury Road.

The nominees are;

Ave Maria
Day One
Everything Will Be Okay
Shok
Stutterer

This is 100% guesswork. Ave Maria and Stutterer are comedies. They rarely give this award to a comedy. Everything Will Be Okay actually seems a little too dark, and there seems to be somewhat mixed reception about the short. I think it all comes down to the two shorts that deal with war, Shok and Day One. Day One is the story of an interpreter on her first day in Afghanistan. Shok is the story of two boys who try to remain friends while a war tears everything apart. It looks like a tight race, but I’m gonna go with Shok.

Tomorrow, I’m going to predict Best Picture. And spoiler alert: It’s gonna be a pretty long post.
