While The Lego Batman Movie is definitely a good time at the cinemas, it’s also a clear step down from 2016’s The Lego Movie in every imaginable sense.
What made that film so special is that it was essentially a 2-hour commercial that got right to the heart of why legos are so beloved. This film doesn’t make enough of an argument for being with in Legos at all.
Don’t get me wrong, this is a very funny film, and there are a number of in-jokes that DC fans will enjoy. But this film doesn’t do dramatic moments especially well. The voice acting and animation are both very well done, but they’re not quite on the same level as the first film.
But for what it’s worth, The Lego Batman movie is a well-constructed comedy (pun intended) that any Batman fan will enjoy.
