2016 Double Movie Review: Hacksaw Ridge and Star Trek Beyond

So there are two films I saw from 2016 that I never got around to reviewing. So I feel the need to clarify my thoughts on these films before I get to 2017.

I’ll admit, I was nervous about Hacksaw Ridge, mainly because I really wasn’t a fan of Mel Gibson’s Oscar winning film Braveheart. But I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. This is a true story that needed to be told, and Andrew Garfield does a great job playing the rather complex role of Desmond Doss. But where this movie truly shines is in the battle scenes, which are crafted expertly by both the film editor and the sound designers. Overall a very solid film, albeit not one of my favorite films this year.

Oh, yeah, I saw Star Trek Beyond. It was decent, I guess. It was adequately well put together. But I just didn’t care about anything I saw on screen. But the makeup was very good. So I’m glad it was nominated.

Now that that’s out of the way, we’ll be getting to some 2017 reviews shortly.
