The Academy just released a shortlist of animated films that will be eligible for the Oscar.
“The Big Bad Fox & Other Tales”
“Birdboy: The Forgotten Children”
“The Boss Baby”
“The Breadwinner”
“Captain Underpants The First Epic Movie”
“Cars 3”
“Cinderella the Cat”
“Coco”
“Despicable Me 3”
“The Emoji Movie”
“Ethel & Ernest”
“Ferdinand”
“The Girl Without Hands”
“In This Corner of the World”
“The Lego Batman Movie”
“The Lego Ninjago Movie”
“Loving Vincent”
“Mary and the Witch’s Flower”
“Moomins and the Winter Wonderland”
“My Entire High School Sinking into the Sea”
“Napping Princess”
“A Silent Voice”
“Smurfs: The Lost Village”
“The Star”
“Sword Art Online: The Movie – Ordinal Scale”
“Window Horses The Poetic Persian Epiphany of Rosie Ming”
Let’s break this down.
We know for a fact that Coco is getting in.
Then we have The Breadwinner and Loving Vincent. In a different year, these films might have a hard time getting in. But not this year.
And then that leaves us with about eight films left for the remaining two spots.
“The Big Bad Fox & Other Tales”
“Cars 3”
“Despicable Me 3”
“Ferdinand”
“The Girl Without Hands”
“The Lego Batman Movie”
“My Entire High School Sinking into the Sea”
“A Silent Voice”
And honestly, I just put these eight film titles into an online randomizer and I ended up with Ferdinand and A Silent Voice. At this point, that’s as good a guess as any.
You know, the Academy sure picked a heck of a year to change the way they vote in this category.
