2016 Golden Globe Winners

Let me just start out by saying, I am so sorry that I said I was gonna liveblog and then I didn’t do it. I don’t know what happened, I guess I just forgot in the heat of the moment.

The show itself was pretty entertaining. Jimmy Fallon was a good host. And the speech that Meryl Streep gave… Oh My God. Maybe there is some hope for mankind after all.

Also, I have reviews of Jackie, Fences, and Lion that will be coming out soon.

But right now, let’s get on to the winners.

BEST COMEDY/MUSICAL: La La Land

This film won a record seven Golden Globes. I think we have our Best Picture winner.

BEST DRAMA: Moonlight

This might be the closest thing to a challenger that La La Land has. It’s probably gonna win the SAG Ensemble prize. We’ll see.

BEST DIRECTOR: Damien Chazelle for “La La Land”

Looks like Chazelle is going to be the youngest person to win the Best Director Oscar.

BEST ACTOR IN A DRAMA: Casey Affleck in “Manchester By The Sea”

Having recently seen Fences, I feel very strongly that this award should belong to Denzel Washington. Hopefully there’s still time for him to claim the Oscar.

BEST ACTRESS IN A DRAMA: Isabelle Huppert in “Elle”

Wow. Looks like I need to see it. The disturbing subject matter has me nervous, but I’m sure that Huppert is very good.

BEST ACTOR IN A COMEDY/MUSICAL: Ryan Gosling in “La La Land”
BEST ACTRESS IN A COMEDY/MUSICAL: Emma Stone in “La La Land”

Of course.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR: Aaron Taylor-Johnson in “Nocturnal Animals.”

WHOA. I loved that movie, but even I don’t think he deserved it. If anything, Michael Shannon would have been a more deserving winner.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Viola Davis in “Fences”

Just engrave her name on the Oscar already. She’s not losing.

BEST SCREENPLAY: La La Land

This got me thinking, is it possible that La La Land becomes the fourth film to win the Big Five at the Oscars?

BEST ORIGINAL SCORE: La La Land
BEST ORIGINAL SONG: ‘City Of Stars’ from La La Land

We’ve got a sweeper over here.

BEST FOREIGN FILM: Elle

Interesting. It’s not eligible for the Oscar, so we’ll see how that race plays out.

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE: Zootopia

Is it too late for this film to sneak into the Best Picture race?

I’ll try to get back to writing more, it’s just that I have a lot of things going on right now in my life.
